I know what you’re thinking — “Nate, where in the world did you come up with such a dumb name for your blog? Slightly Left Of Center is slightly short of moronic.” That’s what my friends are thinking. You don’t want to know what my enemies are thinking!
Well, about a year ago, my wife Jenny and I went to La Fogata Grill in Pickerington, Ohio for some killer enchiladas, great music, and free chips and salsa, not necessarily in that order. The added bonus was that our good friend Keith Klaiber and his buddy Gary were playing guitars and singing on the outdoor patio that night. Seeing as how they play acoustic rock from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s, they were the band formerly known as Flashback. But for reasons unexplained (I’m guessing it involved copyright infringement, fragile kneecaps, and a lead pipe), they were in need of a name change for their little band, and it just so happened that they were taking suggestions that night for a new band name. I was the first to take the little form they passed out to everyone; I wrote down the first thing that came to mind; it was “Slightly Left Of Center.” Don’t ask me why – just remember the premise of this blog, which is: ”this is where I ramble.”
Needless to say, my suggestion was not the winner. Keith’s band is now known as The Distractions. I say, what a weak name for a great band.
So, I’ve taken up my own suggestion, and instead of having a weak name for a great band, I now am the proud owner of a great name for a weak blog. Plus, I really like the acronym – SLoC. I mean, come on, does it get any better than that?

He Nate! Take it from a fellow rambler (hence the name of my blog, The Rambling Train!)… I LOVE THE NAME of your blog!
I see you’re starting to adjust to life in the state up north!
We’ll make it up there one of these days for a visit.
**HUGS** to you Jenny & the little one!

Hi Nate,
I understand about a worship service having some problems here and there. Our group has problems too every once in awhile. Like one Sunday the sound system squealed in our ears a couple of times and we all nearly jumped out of our seats! Music has been generally too loud for the older members and it literally hurts our ears. So prayer came to the rescue. No other comments did! Last Sunday we sang two hymns plus choruses and the sound system was softer. We were thankful. The congregation is also made up of the older folks who love the hymns even though we like most of the new songs too. When they repeat a chorus 10 times that gets a little old. Anyway some thougths from your much older favoite mother-in-law. Ha!
Oh, also our group just smiles when things go wrong or are impossible and sometimes even start over and that’s okay with the congregation.
Praying for you.

How about http://www.slightlyleftofcenter.com? It’s available for you. http://www.namecheap.com/domain-name-search.asp?type=simple&from=homepage
Sue and I were with you and Vern that night when you came up with that lame name for the band. It certainly fits you more than it fits them.

Like I said – “a great name for a weak blog.” LOL. That was a fun night, though the only other thing I remember about it was that it got chilly early, and we didn’t have any jackets so we left sooner than we would have otherwise.
Looks like it’s about 10 bucks a year for that domain. How much webspace comes with that?

Hey Nate,
As one of your friends, I didn’t think the name of your blog as dumb, or moronic even. Rather, I found it reminiscent of the Nate I know. It’s good to read your wits and wisdoms, and the next ten years will go much faster than the last ten – use them wisely.
Say hey to Vern and Samantha for me.
Stay Gods.

Thanks, Dave! I’ll do my best to be wise with the next ten years, and to “be God’s.” Funny, as I sorted through my stuff, I came across a napkin that someone had written “Be God’s” on it. And I remembered it was you who wrote it and left it in my glovebox or armrest or something, one time when you worked on our car, and you wouldn’t let me pay you for it. What a great memory.
