Getting Right With God - God's Covenant Commitment

A COVENANT IS AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN TWO PARTIES:

Genesis 12:2-3 ESV

“And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

ADAM AND EVE BROUGHT THE FALL

ABRAHAM AND SARAH BROUGHT THE HOPE

Genesis 12:1

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”

LEAVE AND CLEAVE

“GO UNTIL I SAY STOP!”

Genesis 12:2

“I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.”

SHORTCUT OR SHORT-CIRCUIT

Genesis 12:3

“I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

GOD’S COVENANTS ALWAYS INVOLVE BLESSING OTHERS

Galatians 3:29

And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

A COVENANT IS AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN TWO PARTIES:

COMMUNION

Hebrews 9:11-12

So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world.

With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.
